The BBC have announced today that the streaming version of BBC Iplayer is now compatible with the Nintendo Wii web browser. The Console joins the Xbox 360 which has been compatible with the service since the*it was launched back in December. With this announcement the PlayStation 3*becomes the only console of the main three not to be compatible with the service. When accessing the flash streams on the PS3’s web browser you are greeting by a black window where the video should be.

While little known, the Xbox 360 is actually compatible with the full download version of the Iplayer. As the console is able to understand DRM’d windows media files, it’s possible to view the content streamed from*a PC*containing downloaded*videos from the service. To do this simply share the “/users/public videos/ My Deliveries/iplayer live” directory on your*PC in the same way you would a pictures or music folder using windows media connect functionality.

It’s not known if Sony or the BBC plan to offer the service on the Playstation 3 however ButtonBandits have contacted the BBC to ask this very question so if they respond*we will let you know.
